SERIOUS STEEL WEIGHTLIFTING THUMB TAPE
The hook grip is an essential and necessary grip for both the snatch and clean. To properly position the grip, the athlete must have a full grip on the bar, with the thumb tucked inside the fingers, with the fingers pulling the thumb around the bar.
Athletes, especially among new athletes, will find that the hook grip can cause small blisters. Athletes will also find that in high rep work the hook grip can become a bit uncomfortable. Utilizing an elastic thumb tape can help alleviate this discomfort and improve the grip where the thumb meets the bar. It is not recommended to use traditional, non-elastic tape as this decreases the range of motion of the thumb.

Please note that:
- Where you start the tape on your thumb does not matter. It is where the tape ends. The end of the tape should end on top of your thumb (same side as your fingernail). This prevents curling and rolling.
- You should always apply tape to dry hands PRIOR to beginning a workout. If you apply the tape to chalked up, sweaty hands, it will not stick correctly.
